our 2007 Golf Challenge Champions!

Allen Tanner/Don Blankenship Foursome Finishes Closely as Runners-up

Repeating as Champions at our 2007 Third Annual Golf Challenge, the Bay Community Bank team, comprised of Bob and George Bailey, Allen Barber and McKinley Price, delivered an impressive score to win top honors, each taking home a beautiful etched crystal trophy and American Express gift card.

The Tanner/Blankenship team, rounded out by Robbie Harrell, Bill Haywood, and Scott Phillips, finished as the runners-up and were awarded etched crystal wine cradles, each with a premium bottle of vintage California wine.

Our Third Annual Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia Golf Challenge, presented by Old Point National Bank, was held on August 27, 2007, at the James River Country Club in Newport News, Virginia. The tournament featured multiple Hole in One contests, including the opportunity to win two new automobiles, compliments of Pomoco Auto Group; a trip to the Super Bowl; a Rolex watch, courtesy of Hauser's Jewelers; and a Calloway golf Club, courtesy of International Golf. Other contests included men's and women's longest drive and closest to the pin contests, as well as a $100,000 shootout and a $1 million shootout.

Congratulations to Gary Fuselier of the Old Point National Bank team for winning the men's longest drive contest. Sandy Schuler, with the Old Point Trust & Financial foursome, took honors for the women's longest drive. Closest to the pin was captured by Mark Fendrick of the Merrill Lynch team.

For the second year, the tournament also featured the popular SUPER SCRATCHER tickets. The top prize of a $1,000 voucher donated by AirTran Airways was captured by Don Blankenship for holding the lucky "hole in one on #15" card. The overall lowest score card was held by Rebecca Ritter Kelly and earned Rebecca a $200 Calloway gift card.

Four of the Super Scratcher tickets were randomly drawn to give players the opportunity to compete in the $100,000 shootout. Those players were Whiting Chisman, Mark Sarrett, Kevin O'Connell, and Rick Elofson. In a separate random drawing of registered teams, the Hampton Chevrolet Team of Mark Lamal, Mike Seaman, John Smith, and Steve Wiggington won the opportunity to compete for the $1,000,000 shootout.

The "19th Hole and Awards Presentation," sponsored by Hampton Chevrolet, featured cocktails, a buffet luncheon, and presentation of all tournament awards and nearly $3,000 in door prizes.
