PENINSULA CRIME LINE, INC. ESTABLISHES ENDOWMENT

Newport News, Virginia – The Peninsula Crime Line, Inc. made a $60,000 gift to the Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia, Inc. on November 13, 2008, to establish an Agency Endowment, announced Jana Murphy, Executive Director of the Foundation. Peninsula Crime Line, Inc., a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to helping local law enforcement officials fight crime on the Virginia Peninsula by paying cash awards for information that assists police, leading to an arrest, the recovery of stolen property, or seizure of illegal drugs, among other crimes.

FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES FIRST FERGUSON SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Newport News, Virginia – On April 28, 2008, the Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia announced the recipients of the first Ferguson Enterprises, Inc. Scholarship for 2008. Nearly 150 applications were received at the Foundation, representing Ferguson associates' children from 30 states where the company does business. A total of five awards were given, taking into account academic performance, community and volunteer service, financial need, a written personal essay, and a written statement defining the applicant's view of "character." Based on the outstanding quality of the applicants - whose combined overall GPA nationwide was 3.51 - the independent selection committee had a very difficult time choosing the recipients.

NBA STAR ALLEN IVERSON TO DONATE $100,000
TO THE PENINSULA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF VIRGINIA

WASHINGTON, January 17, 2008 - Basketball star Allen Iverson is donating $100,000 to support the Newport News Police Department's "Gun Buy Back" program, U.S. Rep. Robert C. Scott announced Wednesday night. The program, used in many major urban centers, offers money to residents who turn in guns to police, with no questions asked. The Newport News program is a joint effort of the police and the Peninsula Community Foundation.

Iverson, a Peninsula native, pledged support for the program in a statement issued by Scott's office. To read the full text of the news release published in the Daily Press, click here.

YORK FOUNDATION FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION ENDOWS AGENCY FUND
WITH THE PENINSULA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF VIRGINIA

Newport News, Virginia, January 14, 2008 – Jana Murphy, Executive Director of the Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia, announced that the York Foundation for Public Education (YFPE) has established an agency endowment fund with the Community Foundation (PCF).  With an initial contribution of $60,000, YFPE board members authorized PCF to invest and manage the funds on their behalf over a long-term period.  Their goal is to protect and grow the principal of the fund while using a portion of the investment earnings to provide scholarships, grants and support the mission of the YFPE, providing long-term sustainability and support of York County educational initiatives.
