Newport News Police Department Foundation Fund

Monument to Service

You are invited to share in a very special opportunity to be part of Newport News Police Department history by purchasing an engraved brick to be installed at the NNPD Headquarters. A personalized brick is a great gift idea or a way to recognize special events, dates, personal achievements, people in your life, or to honor or memorialize someone special. The Monument to Service brick campaign provides an opportunity to leave a legacy while supporting the Newport News Police Department Foundation Fund.

Other Foundation Fund Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is the purpose of the NNPD Foundation Fund?

The Fund was created to promote excellence in policing to the Newport News Police Department by providing resources not readily available from traditional funding sources.

The Fund's primary focus will support worthwhile professional development, training, equipment, wellness and morale, and public relations activities connected with the police department and its staff. All financial support received for the Fund will support the police department's mission to safely and securely maintain the City's law enforcement obligations. The number one goal is reducing crime and providing a safe environment for the citizens of Newport News.

2.  How is the NNPD Foundation Fund Administered?

The Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia, Inc. ("PCF") administers the Fund. PCF is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charity, which is overseen by a volunteer board of directors.

A group of individuals who are NOT police department staff will be selected to serve as the board of directors of the Fund. An internal NNPD committee will screen funding requests prior to submitting the applications to the board. The board will review the requests and, if approved, recommend the grant disbursement from the Fund administrator (PCF) based upon the established guidelines.

3.  How is the NNPD Foundation Fund supported?

The Fund is supported by unsolicited donations, fund-raising activities, and from directed public donations to the Fund.

4.  How can individuals contribute to the Fund?

Members of the community and police department staff may contribute to the Fund through cash contributions, credit card charges or stock contributions.  Contributions to the Fund may not be earmarked for a specific individual or specific purpose, but may be designated as an honorary or memorial gift in someone’s name.
