Announcing the 2009 Ferguson Scholars
The applicants for the 2009 Ferguson Scholarships were all extraordinary students with outstanding qualifications, making this year’s selection process even more difficult. Sixteen finalists were named in early April, and those 16 competed for the five $2,500 renewable awards. Five independent judges did a final evaluation of the 16 finalists, scoring each of the criteria on a scale of 1 to 7. Judges also ranked their “top five” students.
After all the scores were added, students earned “bonus points” for being in any judge’s top five, based on how they were ranked. The bonus points served as a tie-breaking system, since some students had identical composite scores.

Thank you, once again, to all the talented, hard working, and worthy students who applied. Selecting only five recipients was a daunting task in the face of the achievements of each and every applicant!
Congratulations to these outstanding students!
