The Ferguson Scholarship

The Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia is pleased to
administer the Ferguson Scholarship Fund.

The Ferguson Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 to provide financial assistance to dependent children of Ferguson associates who are high school seniors planning to enroll full-time in a post-secondary two- or four-year university or college, trade or vocational school, OR who are currently enrolled full-time as a college freshman, sophomore, or junior with at least one year of coursework remaining at the undergraduate level. Students must be pursuing their first college degree.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Because the applicants typically represent the "best of the best" nationwide, this is a detailed and time-consuming process. Each applicant is truly outstanding and qualified in his or her own way, making the final selections extremely difficult.

As applications are received, they are prescreened to ensure that all required documentation has been properly submitted. Applicants receive e-mails informing them of their status and whether or not they have qualified to move on to the next phase of the process.

All qualified applications go through a second evaluation process that rates key criteria, and semi-finalists are selected to compete for the final awards. The second screening identifies the top applicants based on the six key criteria established by Ferguson Enterprises: written personal essay, character paragraph, community service and involvement, assessment of financial need (calculated as a percentage ratio of the family's reported EFC versus anticipated annual college expenses, and considering other aid received), extracurricular activities and school honors, and academic achievement (grades and test scores). Letters of reference are also considered.
