Scholarships - Michael J. Tylavsky, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Michael Tylavsky

In December 2008, The Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia partnered with the York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. to administer The Michael J. Tylavsky, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, named for the former Principal of Tabb High School. High school seniors from Bruton High School, Grafton High School, Tabb High School, York High School and York River Academy are eligible to apply for the non-renewable $500 award.

Mike Tylavsky was a highly respected and admired educator and school administrator in York County, where he retired after 26 years of dedicated service. "Mr. T." subsequently served as Principal at North Moore High School in North Carolina until his death from cancer in 2007 at age 58. He was admired for his strength, straightforwardness, and for teaching his students to "do the right thing." His innovative thinking was credited with improving the lives of countless students and impacting the entire community.

In keeping with Mike Tylavsky's character, ideals, and wishes, this memorial scholarship will provide assistance to a student pursuing a career in health and technology, who comes from a working family and may not otherwise be able to attend school.

If you are interested in making a tax-deductible gift to The Michael J. Tylavsky, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, please contact The Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia (757.327.0862 / E-Mail / Contact Us).

Congratulations to the 2011 Scholarship Winner!
