Everything we do flows from the many partnerships we treasure and nourish

Our community impact is contingent upon the support we receive from donors and corporate partners.
Without their very generous time, talents and resources, we would not be able to sustain the annual growth we depend
on to build capacity every year to assist the many individuals we serve.

How these partnerships work:

  • Nonprofits: financial support through funds at the Foundation, connection with one another, resources and added capacity, strategic grants - The most important partnership with the nonprofit community is the flow of financial support from the donor funds housed at PCF. Additionally, we help to connect nonprofits to one another to join together on programs and priorities. Through the the recently created Peninsula Nonprofit Partnership we work in concert with three other community-wide organizations (the Virginia Peninsula Chamber, the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula, and the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters Foundation) to offer resources, networking and capacity-augmenting services to nonprofits across this region. Through our annual Children’s Holiday Fund, we provide competitive grants for holiday-specific programs serving area children and their families. And through our Give Local 757 program, we support hundreds of nonprofits through this annual day-of-giving opportunity that to date has raised more than $14 million for this community.
  • Other Foundations: Regular meetings with other community foundations; membership in Virginia Funders Network; membership in the Council on Foundations; communication with area private and program-specific foundations - Staying on top of best practices, holistic priorities and opportunities across the foundation arena through regular participation in meetings, convenings and virtual trainings held by Foundation umbrella organizations; sharing challenges and ideas with fellow community foundations in our area including Williamsburg, Hampton Roads, Suffolk, Southeastern Virginia and the Northern Neck; regular connection with private foundations in the area about needs, priorities, programs and challenges we can address together.
  • For-Profit Businesses: Philanthropy, communication, finding ways to help - We are home to philanthropic funds through which businesses do their giving; to crisis funds through which they offer emergency support for their employees; to community research that we share with the business community to help inform their planning and giving and knowledge about needs and opportunities across the community. We collaborate with corporate leaders who understand that a healthy community is the foundation of a healthy economy.
  • Government: Communication, Research: Through regular communication with leaders of all six of the municipalities we serve, we stay apprised of major issues and needs for each, and for the Peninsula community overall. We share that information with donors who have funds with us at the Foundation, and with the nonprofits as well. We conduct research - large-scale studies, and small projects responding to emerging needs or opportunities - to help provide data to support and inform policies, programs and development strategy.
  • Educational Institutions: Scholarships, Teacher Support grants, Direct Grants for programs, Support from Advised Funds and Endowments, Internships, Innovative Service Programs - We are home to 21 scholarships that serve students across this community and across the country; teacher support grants that provide xxx awards each year for innovative teaching ideas; strategic direct grants approved by our board supporting major innovative education initiatives on the Peninsula. We broker internship possibilities with other nonprofits and offer internships at the Foundation too.

Why Partner With Us?

We were created to make it easy for people and organizations to achieve community change together. Our job is to find a way to “yes” for programs and projects that will make life better for our neighbors across the Peninsula. We are here to serve those who serve our neighbors. That’s our agenda. We provide proven financial success for those who entrust us with their philanthropic resources - so their money can do more good for this community.

We offer communication and marketing opportunities for nonprofits that help them reach more people - to serve them, and to invite their support. We stay apprised, always, of the greatest needs and most promising possibilities across our community - so we can in turn share that news with donors and partners of all kinds.
