James M. Stevens scholarship memorial fund
The James M. Stevens Memorial Scholarship was established by his parents to honor their son, who died in May 2018. James, autistic from birth, was an exceptional student, graduating from Bethel High School and graduating with honors from Thomas Nelson Community College. This scholarship recognizes deserving students who have persevered to overcome challenges and have impressed their teachers with their ability to succeed. As a way of recognizing the tireless efforts in helping their students succeed, teachers both nominate candidates and select the awardees. The scholarship will pay up to $2,000 and a student has two years after graduation to use the award.
NOMINATION CRITERIA: 1. Be a graduating student from Hampton, York County or Poquoson public schools. 2. Have an existing Individualized Education Plan (IEP) ) certified by the school Special Education Director. 3. Have the desire to continue education beyond high school into a post-secondary school program (such as a 2 or 4 year college, university, community college, trade school, apprenticeship or vocational certification training program). 4. Deadline for nominations is April 12, 2024. |
