Yorktown FC Soccer Scholarship
The Yorktown FC Soccer Scholarship is an endowment from the Yorktown FC Soccer Club, a travel soccer club that was founded in 2007. Its purpose is to honor Yorktown FC’s philosophy of combining volunteering in the community with a passion for soccer. High School seniors from York County and the City of Newport News are eligible to apply. Each year in spring, two deserving athletes, one male and one female, will be awarded a $500 non-renewable scholarship for continuing their education after high school.
From 2007 to 2021, Yorktown FC was led solely by experienced volunteers with the aim of advancing soccer skills for young boys and girls. Yorktown FC coaches endeavored not only to teach soccer skills and the value of sportsmanship, but also to instill a commitment to our hometown community.

They believed volunteerism and giving back locally was a priority, therefore they modeled that commitment and passed it along to their players as they matured, providing opportunities for service in action. Students who win this award should exemplify these ideals. The dedicated volunteer coaches, aside from their primary careers, gave countless hours of their time simply for the love of the game and to inspire the Yorktown FC philosophy in the players. This vision, enthusiasm, unselfish outlook, and dedication to volunteering formed the pillars upon which the club stood until its dissolution and merger with another local travel club in 2021. Students must be of good moral character, volunteer in the community and demonstrate a passion for soccer. Students are not required to play soccer on the college level to be eligible for this scholarship.
